Frequently asked questions
What are your hours of business?
Monday to Friday 9am - 6pm.
If you call outside of business hours the call may not be answered, but leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as we can. Calls during business hours will always be answered if possible, but sometimes machinery noise and ear defenders get in the way.
Are you insured?
Yes we certainly are! We have £1m public liability insurance to cover working in your garden. This means if
anything gets broken, or an accident happens, you are covered.
Always check your gardener has insurance in place, otherwise you could end up paying for their mistakes!
Are you licenced to apply pesticides?
Yes we certainly are! We have City & Guilds PA1/PA6a licences to apply perticides. Always check your operator has the required licence.
Are weed killers dangerous?
Although there is always an element of risk when using herbicides, we always try to stay up to date with the latest, safest solutions to control weeds.
We currently use Roundup ProVantage 480 for total weedkiller and Interfix for lawn weeds. These are currently 2 of the safest modern herbicides available to professionals. We will always follow the guidelines for the application of herbicides, to ensure your environment stays safe, for you and your pets.
Which areas do you cover?
We cover the following service area for regular visits.
Do you accept credit cards?
Yes we certainly do! We carry a mobile card reader that simply uses our mobile phone internet connection to securely take payments. More info can be found here: Paypal here card payments
We also accept: cash, cheques, bank transfers and paypal. Just ask for details.
Can I spread the cost of my services?
Yes! We actually prefer it when customers pay monthly (12 monthly standing order/direct debit), as it spreads the cost for the customer, and supplies income for us in the winter when the lawns are dormant. We will work out what services you require for the year, work out a total price, and divide it into 12 low monthly payments.
How does your guarantee work?
We always try our best to make everything look great in your garden, but sometimes mistakes happen and if they do, we will put them right. Simple as that.
What do you mean by the term 'mulching' when mowing?
Our mower has a special blade fitted, that will cut the grass clippings into tiny pieces, and the fan action of the blade spinning then pushes the clippings back into the lawn, where they quickly break down feeding the grass. This saves us from having to dispose of the waste, feeds the lawn, and helps the environment all at once. It will also save you money. Mulching is limited to weekly cuts, as longer grass doesn't mulch as easily, and may leave visible clippings on your lawn.
What do you mean by the term 'discharging' when mowing?
This is basically letting the clippings fall on the grass without mulching or collecting. Just like the council do on playing fields.
Why do you charge for waste removal?
Because we are a business, we are not allowed to use the free council 'dump-it' sites. The cheapest place for us to dispose of your waste costs a minimum of £25, so dropping a couple of bags of cuttings off from your lawn would cost us £25, plus time (lost earnings) and petrol. So we charge for waste removal just the same as any waste removal company would, but we are much, much cheaper. Have a look at the price to remove a builders bag of waste here at hippo-bag (which is one of the cheapest options). We regularly remove a builders bag of waste from single gardens for a fraction of that price.
Always check your gardener is licensed to carry waste away, as it is against the law to carry waste without a licence and encourages fly tipping! If fly tipped waste is traced back to you, you will be fined, not the fly tipper!
Why don't you have an hourly rate?
We charge by the job, not by the hour. This allows the customer to know how much the job will cost, before work commences. Then the job is then completed for the quoted price. This avoids clock watching, tea breaks paid for by you and other ways used to make a job last longer.
Do you do full garden landscaping projects?
No sorry, we are mostly just a lawn service, and landscaping is not our regular service.
Do you do full garden maintenance?
No, sorry. We just mostly maintain lawns (and sometimes hedges), also offering lawn treatments, fertilisation and weed control. We do offer commercial grounds maintenance for businesses.
